Sweethearts

‘Sweethearts’ uses the visual language of candy to confront the epidemic of violence against women. Heart-shaped graves reflect the number of women killed by violence in Australia this year, many by intimate partners. Inscribed with phrases that excuse, minimise and enable violence, the work challenges the attitudes that allow it to persist.

Both Sides Now

In a world of increasing ideological fracturing, ‘Both Sides Now’ uses the dual-faced ancient Roman god, Janus, as a totem for our global divide. Through faceted mirror planes, the sculpture explores the collapse of common ground. Though Janus looks in opposite directions, each face is physically unable to see the other’s perspective.

BA (Hons) Politics and Media, Northumbria University, UK 2003. Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, Manchester School of Art. Sydney based Ewart has developed an independent practice since 2022, with a focus on figurative ceramic sculpture, large-scale abstract painting and photography. Alongside his art practice, Ewart has a 20-year career as a journalist, producer and creative director, working across leading international media and commercial brands.

Unveiling the Edges of the Sky

‘Unveiling the Edges of the Sky’ embodies an awakening, an emergence from darkness into illumination. Drawing on ancient Indian mythology, the work pays homage to female deities, whose presence is defined by radiant, generative power. Unlike destructive forces, her energy reveals, awakens, and renews.

Harrie Fasher is a leading contemporary sculptor based in Portland, NSW, whose large-scale works in steel, bronze and concrete are recognised for their emotional force and technical ambition. Broad Band Portal

A hybrid structure, a gateway between the past and into the future. Are you willing to pass through? Which way will you go? Left? Right? Or do you prefer to dwell in the middle? Inspired by bamboo scaffolding in Hong Kong, mounted on steel legs, joined together with bicycle tube rubber strips. East meets West, North meets South, a true global structure with a touch of ‘Dutchness’!

de Munk-Kerkmeer received a degree in Art and Communication from Edith Cowan University 2009, and an Adv. Dip. Fine Art from Central TAFE 2004. The artist completed the prestigious residency at Amsterdam University of the Arts, Netherlands and was a Helen Lempriere Scholarship recipient in 2012. SxS Cottesloe 13 times since 2011. Surface Breach

Surface Breach explores the fragility concealed beneath apparent strength. As the monumental hand forces its way upward, its rupture marks the instant when stability gives way to tension, transformation and release, revealing that even the most flawless systems are never entirely secure.

Sculptor and photographer, trained and practising as an architect, with senior design roles in Australia, Asia, and the Middle East since 2008. Solo and group exhibitions include Bondi Pavilion Gallery 2012 and Head On, Sydney 2012 and 2017. Whisper

The sculpture takes the form of an ear that gradually transforms from a rational, precise anatomical shape into a flowing, abstract form. The title ‘Whisper’ carries several layers of meaning. ‘Whisper’ is also the name of an AI tool that translates spoken sound into written text. At the same time, a whisper is something intimate, fragile, and often private. In the sculpture, the whisper itself becomes translated into an abstract visual form.

Freed

The chain is broken. The rope is snapped. Freed from the ties that bind - from domestic violence, poverty, persecution, anxiety. This is a sculpture of hope. I am a doctor who sculpts. I use recycled scrap steel, rarely knowing what the outcome will be. It’s the steel - the size, shape, patina, and weight that directs the inclination to work with those pieces to create a sculpture where the whole is perceived as greater than the sum of its parts. Only when the construction is completed does the sculpture itself suggest a name.

Ascent (2022)

This work captures a moment full of tension and risk. It suggests a state where something new emerges from fragmentation and balance is found within instability, freezing the moment when life breaks free from gravity.

Lithicle (Ephemera Papyrus)

Lithicles nestle into the massive sandstone of the Sydney coast. Found solely between Bondi and Tamarama, colonies appear in late October. Why they amass is not known, but they seem unaffected by the visitors that delight in this fleeting phenomenon.

ART (Artificial Real Time)

This sculpture explores the tension between our reliance on AI and the potential loss of personal identity. The figure symbolises the growing influence of AI in art and creativity, suggesting a diminishing personal touch and unique identity as technology becomes more dominant. The central figure’s lack of colour highlights the erosion of individuality and artistic authenticity in our increasing dependence on technology.
